Packing for your motorhome holiday starts off as an artform – or a hobby in itself! But really, once you’ve nailed down the things you can’t be without out, one of the great beauties of the motorhoming holiday is the avoidance of packing!
These are the accessories making it onto our must-have list for any first-time motorhomer this season.
1. Reversing Sensors
If you don’t have reversing sensors fitted as standard to your motorhome, there are many options to choose from which can be retro-fitted. They can offer great piece of mind when parking and departing – you know exactly whether any children playing or stray pets behind your motorhome. Not only do we sell the kits, but we will fit them too.
2. 18.5” Avtext TV / DVD (L188DRS)
The compact TV is slim and lightweight – making it ideal for use in motorhomes. It has a great picture, excellent quality audio and flexible viewing and power options – including support for 240v AC / 12v24v DC. Pair it with the Max VUQube and you have a wealth of entertainment options at your fingertips.
3. 25 Meter Mains Electric Cable
If you are taking a TV with you, a mains cable is a useful addition to your motorhome garage. This 25-metre cable is long enough to deal with most hook-up eventualities.
4. Mains Hook Up Adapter UK
For greater flexibility when charging from the mains – especially for topping up at home – you’ll need too add a mains hook-up adapter so that your mains electric cable can plug into the standard UK power socket.
5. Toilet Cassette Sachets
Adding chemicals to your toilet cassette aids with emptying and keeping the unit fresh – provided you dispose of the waste responsibly. However, adding the chemicals to the cassette unit isn’t always the nicest job. These toilet cassette sachets make life easier. Not only can you be assured of the right dose every time, you aren’t dealing with open bottles of toilet chemicals. The sachets are water soluble so dissolve when used – making it easy and convenient to keep your toilet cassette fresher.
6. Set of chocks
Unless you’re lucky enough to have a self-levelling hydraulic unit fitted in your van, a set of chocks is a great investment – especially if you like rugged sites but are particular about the direction in which you sleep.
7. Propane Gas Bottle & Quality Gas Hose
Ask a motorhomer whether to go for propane or butane and you’re likely to instigate a long conversation. However, if you are likely to be dealing with lower temperatures, propane is the better bet. Butane will begin to freeze at around three degrees centigrade, so chose propane if you are likely to be camping in winter or spring. And ensure you have the correct regulator!
If you are using gas, get it fitted by one of our team or another qualified fitter. We also recommend using a good high-pressure propane/butane/LPG gas hose – don’t be tempted to skimp on quality.
8. 10-metre Flat Hose on Reel
Another essential: a water hose. Choose a non-toxic foldaway water hose for maximum safety and convenience. 10m is the minimum length we recommend, but you might want to consider choosing a 20m hose (or more) if you plan on going off the beaten track.
9. Fiamma Canopy Awnings 2.6m, 3m, 3.5m, 4m, 4.5m
Fiamma canopy awnings are a great addition to your motorhome – and can be worth their weight in gold on a hot, sunny day. As well as providing much-needed shade and a pleasant place to eat on warm sunny days, they can be extremely useful on wet days too – providing a sheltered place to keep muddy shoes outside!
10. Additional Internal Sockets
Finally, before you set off on a long break in your motorhome, have a think about the internal sockets you need. It is easy for our team to fit extra sockets, so if you think you might need them do get it done before you go! Walk around your motorhome and think about how you’re going to be using it – consider what you need for charging phones, laptops, tablets or other devices you may take with you as well as what you will need for your TV and other appliances. Then talk with our team.
